Leather Usage (Clothing) Analysis
-
Product Description and Applications Leather used in clothing is a natural material obtained from animals such as sheep, goats, and cows. These leathers undergo specific processes to gain flexibility, durability, and aesthetic qualities. Clothing leathers are used in the production of products such as jackets, pants, gloves, and bags. The Libyan National Standards and Metrology Center has established quality standards for the production of these types of leathers.

Technical Specifications and Types
Types of Leather:
- Sanded Leather: Leathers with a cleaned and smoothed surface (e.g., parchment leather).
- Unsanded Leather: Leathers that maintain their natural surface structure.
General Features:
- Material Type: Sheep, goat, or cow hides should be used.
- Durability: Leathers must be free from cuts, cracks, and defects.
- Flexibility: It should have adequate fullness and flexibility.
- Dyeing: Dyes should be homogeneous and stable, without running during washing.
- Physical Properties (ISO Standards):
- Thickness: Minimum 0.7 mm for sanded leather, minimum 1 mm for unsanded leather.
- Tensile Strength: Minimum 180 kg/cm².
- Elongation: 45%.
- Tear Strength: At least 15 kg/cm².
- Dry Cleaning Durability: The leather should not shrink, and the surface should not be damaged.
- Chemical Properties:
- Moisture Content: Maximum 18%.
- Chromium Oxide Content: Minimum 3% (based on dry weight).
- Fat Content: Minimum 10%.
- pH Value: Minimum 3.5.
- Sampling and Testing Methods
Sampling: Samples are taken for each production batch; the number of samples should be half the square root of the total amount of leather being tested. Testing Methods:
- Thickness measurement (ISO 2589:2000).
- Tensile and tear resistance tests (ISO 17706:2003, ISO 17696:2004).
- Dry and wet friction tests (ISO 11640:1993).
- Water resistance and vapor permeability tests (ISO 11642:2002, ISO 14268:2002).
- Packaging and Labeling Requirements
Packaging: Leathers should be packaged with protective packaging to prevent moisture and physical damage. Labeling:
- Manufacturer's name and address.
- Product type, size, and color.
- Production date and country of origin.
- Market Requirements and Compliance Clothing leathers must meet high-quality standards in terms of durability, aesthetics, and functionality. HRN Inspection conducts physical and chemical tests on the leathers to certify their compliance with Libyan standards.
HRN Inspection helps leather manufacturers meet quality standards while enhancing their products' competitiveness in the international market. Compliance with standards guarantees that the products are durable and reliable.
