HEAVY FUEL OIL ANALYSIS
1. Product Description and Applications
Heavy fuel oil (fuel oil) is a fuel composed of heavy hydrocarbons, used in power plants and industrial facilities. It is commonly preferred in steam boilers, generators, and large-scale industrial furnaces. This fuel is known for its low cost and high energy efficiency.
2. Technical Specifications and Conditions
Physical and Chemical Properties:
- Density: Recorded at 15°C in kg/m³.
- Kinematic Viscosity: Should be between 22-8 centistokes at 100°C.
- Flash Point: Measured using the Pensky-Martens method, and should be at least 70°C.
- Sulfur Content: Should be less than 1% by weight.
- Carbon Residue: Should not exceed 10% by weight.
- Ash Content: Should not exceed 0.05% by weight.
- Pour Point: Should be no more than 42°C.
- Vanadium: Should not exceed 100 mg/kg.
Safety and Storage Conditions:
- The product should be free from mineral acids, olefins, and excessive solid materials.
- It must remain homogeneous during storage and should be used in compliance with the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
3. Testing and Sampling Methods
Standard Test Methods: Tests are carried out according to ASTM and ISO standards.
- ASTM D93: Flash point test.
- ASTM D97: Pour point test.
- ASTM D482: Ash content test.
- ASTM D445: Kinematic viscosity test.
- ASTM D240: Calorific value test.
Sampling Methods:
- Manual Sampling: Performed according to ISO 3170 and ASTM D4057 standards.
- Automatic Sampling: Performed in accordance with ISO 3171 and ASTM D4177 standards.
- The sample chain of custody must be traceable according to ASTM D4840.
4. Market Requirements and Compliance
Heavy fuel oil's high energy efficiency and low cost make it an ideal option for industrial energy production. HRN Inspection ensures quality assurance by testing the physical and chemical properties of this fuel according to international standards.
HRN Inspection also supervises compliance with the necessary standards for the storage, transportation, and usage of heavy fuel oil, providing customers with reliability and a competitive edge in the international market. This process plays a significant role in enhancing the safety and efficiency of industrial operations.
